Privacy and proof

Your data stays on your phone.

  • No account, no analytics. Places and visits are stored only on this phone.
  • Network only for the map and address search, and only after you allow it.
  • Geofencing uses Google Play Services on your phone, without continuous GPS.

Technical details

  • Signed proof: ECDSA P-256 signature over a SHA-256 Merkle root of your visits. The key is kept in the Android Keystore (TEE or StrongBox where the phone has it).
  • Encrypted backup: AES-256-GCM vault (.locitime), key derived by PBKDF2.
  • Export: CSV, PDF, JSON.
  • Wipe: Erase everything, including the signing key, by holding a button for 3 seconds.

Frequently asked questions

Clear answers about goals, battery and your data.

What is a qualified day?

A day counts as qualified when your total time at a place reaches the daily goal you set for it. Several short visits in the same day add up.

Can I track days per week?

Yes. Each place can use a daily goal or a days-per-week goal, where any days count. You can also choose which weekdays are active.

Does background geofencing drain my battery?

No. Locitime uses native Android geofencing managed by Google Play Services. It does not poll GPS continuously, so the battery cost is low.

What permissions does Locitime require and why?

Precise and background location, so Android can tell Locitime when you arrive or leave while the app is closed. Notifications, for goal reached, tracking paused and backup reminders. Wi-Fi state and Bluetooth scan, only if you turn on Wi-Fi or beacon backup for a place. Internet, only for map tiles and address search after you allow them. Read the full privacy policy.

Does an employer or client see my location?

No. Locitime has no server and no account. It only stores arrival and departure times at the places you add. It does not store routes or a location track between places. You decide what to share: a CSV, a PDF or a signed proof.

What happens if I switch or lose my phone?

Your history lives only on the phone. Export an encrypted vault (.locitime) protected by a passphrase, keep it where you choose, and restore it on the new phone during setup. Nobody can recover a forgotten passphrase.

How do I delete my data?

In Settings you can edit or delete a place, reset the current month, or wipe everything. Wipe also deletes the signing key. Removing the app deletes your history too, so save a backup first.

Is Locitime free?

Yes. Locitime is free, with no ads, no subscription, no in-app purchase and no analytics SDK.

Take control of your time and places.

No account required. Free, private, and lightweight on Android.

SHA-256 … · Verify your download

Verify your download

Locitime is installed from a file, so check it first. The file must match the values below. If it does not, do not install it.

File
locitime-latest.apk · - ·

How to check

The checksum proves the file was not changed on the way. The certificate proves it was signed with the Locitime release key. We use SHA-256 because MD5 is no longer safe for this.

About Locitime

Locitime is made by one independent creator, not by a company.

The idea is simple: a quiet tool that keeps a private record of the time you spend at the places that matter to you, without handing your location to anyone. It needs no account, shows no ads and has no analytics. Nothing leaves your phone unless you export it yourself.

Because it is a one-person project, there is no technical support, no sales team and no data to sell. Updates arrive when they are ready, and your feedback helps decide what comes next.

Last updated: 30 September 2026 · Open as a page

Locitime has no account and no server of its own. This page says what the app does with your data and what you control.

What Locitime records

When you arrive at or leave a place you added, Locitime stores the place, the arrival and departure times, and how the visit was detected. It uses them to work out your qualified days. Your settings are stored too.

Where it is kept

Only in this phone. There is no Locitime server, no account, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking library. Nothing is uploaded unless you save a file yourself.

Location and nearby signals

Locitime asks for precise location and for Allow all the time, so Android can tell it about arrivals while the app is closed. The geofencing itself is provided by Google Play services on your phone; Google's own privacy terms apply to that part. If you turn on Wi-Fi or Bluetooth backup for a place, Locitime compares the Wi-Fi network or beacon around you with the one you paired. That comparison happens on the phone and the names are never uploaded.

When the network is used

The optional map in Add Location downloads map tiles from OpenFreeMap, which is built on OpenStreetMap. That server can see your IP address and the map area you look at. The optional address search, when you press Search, sends the text you typed, your IP address and the app language to the Nominatim service of OpenStreetMap. Both are off until you allow them, and you can turn the map off again from the map. Locitime sends nothing else over the network.

Files you create

CSV, PDF, JSON backups, encrypted vaults and proofs are saved where you choose. Locitime never uploads them. A plain JSON backup can be read by anyone who has the file; a vault needs its passphrase, and nobody can recover a forgotten one.

Integrity proofs

A proof is a summary of your visits signed with a key kept in this phone's Keystore. It contains your totals, place names and the public part of that key, so anyone you give it to can tell that two proofs came from the same phone. It does not prove that you were at a place.

Your control

You can edit or delete any place, reset the current month, or delete everything, which also deletes the signing key. You can take back location, notification and nearby-device permissions in Android settings at any time; tracking then pauses.

Reinstalling

Your history lives only on this phone, so removing the app deletes it. Save a backup first if you want to keep it.

Children

Locitime is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect data from anyone, because it collects nothing off the phone.

Changes to this policy

If Locitime starts using the network for anything else, or handles data differently, this page and the app's Privacy screen will change before the update ships. The date at the top shows the last change.
